RetwWe played the Wormy Dog in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma tonight. It's chilly, cloudy with a few sprinkles, and gray. We arrived to the city early coming from Tulsa. Nick got to see his parents and Jordan's family came out to take part in the festivities. I must say Jordan wins the FAMILY SUPPORT award. He's had family come to shows from all over. Tonight is especially deep because we are in his home state, so tonight I met uncles, cousins, the father of cousins, childhood friends, and immediate relatives. Jordan's people are great, especially Shelby (his big sis) who is my favorite because she's always set to steal away and have a moment where we can talk, catch up, and laugh. She's really great company whenever she makes it out to a show.
We did the show with the Effects, who always managed to be a great opener for our shows and they bring great energy. Joel started the night off with a miners hat on. It was a great additive to his already rocked out persona. Something I noticed that I hadn't noticed before.
These past two shows, Cliff traveled down from Dallas to see us. It's always great to have Cliff in the audience. He's been following the guys since HOT TROTTIN released and he had a great time in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Cliff and I had Mexi-Cali food in Tulsa that didn't agree with me, and we had Sushi in Oklahoma City which was over-priced for the portions. I think Nandina's in Dallas beats this place (In The Raw), but In The Raw had way more ambiance . . . I supposed that's what we each paid for. I do sometimes hang out with supporters and it's usually a profound experience for me.
So we have one of our best nights in OK, city. The sound was great (thanks Steve) and the crowd was in effect. It was such a hot night for all involved that by the end of the night, Jordan and Kansas were fit to be tied. Kansas is the best when drunk . . . so animated and no censor whatsoever. We all get to the hotel and annihilate the snack closet. We caught it on tape...if you never see it, know it once existed. It's vintage if it can survive our growing. Yours truly got the footage, so I'm not lying to you . . . it's must see.
In the morning is a radio interview with Scarlett of KATT radio and then we head to Wichita Falls for a show at the Iron Horse. From there, it's home again to gear up for SXSW. Please feel free to TWEET FROM OUR SHOWS DURING SXSW. We'd love to have you be a part of our experience. Jimmy and JT are watching a college dunk contest on the tube. Jordan and Kansas are next door sobering up for tomorrow. Nick is out with friends. Okalahoma is home for Nick as well, so we always lose him to his OKLAHOMIES when we come to town. I believe it's a wonderful thing when any of us can be with friends and family while out on the road. It's nothing short of a gift.
COUNTDOWN TO KIMMEL BEGINS MARCH 21!!!!!
I'm calling it a night. It's important to make conscious decisions about how to treat pepople as it usually dictates how you will be treated. Love yourself enough to love someone else in the process. Stay strong and stay familiar. Sign out 2:54 AM. I smoked prolly five cigarettes today . . . a grand setback in my journey to rid myself of them. I could be disappointed but I've done well the last five days plus. I admit to having moments, especially when folks approach me with a new pack. I owe Arron of the Effects a pack at this point, because I bum so much from him . . . but I have decided not to ask for anymore cigs. The struggle is about to get intense. I have no expectations other than to leave em alone. I will win. I have faith and the will. I don't mind the battle. RIP Corey Haim.
