It's been a good three weeks since I've blogged and lots has happended. Let's see . . . right now I'm in St. Louis, MO. We arrived here at about 3:45 in the AM. By we, I mean, Brandon, JT, and me. Jordan has family two hours out and Nick is doing some recording work n Austin. He will return tomorrow. The drive was crazy being that the A/C on the van went out before we left, so we rode in heat underneath overcast skies. When we arrived at the hotel, I immediately had to go spend some energy because I'd slept most of the way due to possible heat exhaustion. I ran two miles on the tread mill(hence my 4 oh 7 FB message), stretched, showered and got in the bed about 6AM.
I didn't win the FUNK/R&B category for the DOMAXXII, but I got the best Honorable Mention I could have asked for - a full page picture of me that came with the review article. Thank you Dallas Observer and whoever made that decision. I appreciate it. You will see me & the COSMOS again. JT did win BEST MALE VOCALS again and for that, I'm also very proud.
On our last tour: Stillwater, OK, Ardmore, OK, Austin, TX, Houston, TX, Fort Worth, TX and New Braunfels, TX we had three extra players on board: Becky Elias (vocals), Beau Bedford (additional guitar/vocals), and EJ Norris (keys). This gave our band a whole new sound and waaaay more to look at. Folks seemed to like it and I think JT is addicted. He likes the big band sound. He's been wanting it since I met him, so it's great to see his desires beginning to take shape. I loved having Becky on board. Seeing my dance moves be played out in full was so fun and her singing voice is priceless. No dis to Beau or EJ, but they weren't next to me. HA!
This tour, we r back to the five. This tour includes St. Louis, MO, Prairie Du Chien, WI, Chicago, IL and Pontiac, MI. This morning we did three on-air radio shows with THE POINT and K*SHE*95. Great folks at both stations - prolly the liveliest DJ's we've met in terms of opinions, tenacity, and eneregy. We got to talking about the Kings of Leon fiasco, which I thought was a hilarious pity and a shame. If you didn't know, the Kings played St. Louis two nights ago and abruptly stopped the show (and left) after reporting being shyt on by pigeons. Yeah, three songs in they ended the show. Of course there's talk of drunkeness (which I don't doubt. I've read in numerous interviews about the King's drinking habits) but there is also talk of possible court. Either way . . . if I'm playing in front of a crowd and I get shat on by a pigeon . . . we kill the birds, but the show goes on. And if I'm drunk, let me pass out on stage.
On a personal note. A few of you were concerned for me after TWEETING that I'd met a guy who (unlike most) managed to make me fantasize about being in a relationship again. This is true. I'm going on five years single profiling, but I'm cool - don't get it twisted. BUT, this charming mofo came straight for my juggular with the approach and I couldn't deny it. It confused me and elated me all at once. HOWEVER . . . I learned a long time ago that I'm a lot to handle. I'm driven, stubborn, a geek, and I'm no nympho. I still wash my own clothes and cooking for me has become juicing mostly. So unless he likes liquid spinach and can fold my underwear, I'm not sure if I'm gonna come down off my mountain. He's very tempting tho. The most tempting I've had in a hot minute and I already love him. See? I'm not totally being realistic here, right?
We play a show tomorrow at the OLD ROCK HOUSE and it seems the folks here are ready for us. I pray the folks with our van can indeed get the AC running. Shout out to everyone who has come out to the shows and who keep up with us on Twitter n such. I hope SINKINGSHIPS has gotten over her whiplash from the Fort Worth show! Also shout out to Teresa Dillard and RonAmber Deloney who are n Mic City right now vacationing with their family. Flo and I got together and recorded some stuff. I hope she can use. I hope you are well and aspiring to great things. Take care.
